If you want to use your computer instead of your camera to do the conversions, Fujifilm also has the free Raw Converter software that will let you apply the simulations as you wish and export files either as TIFF or jpgs. (LUTs are camera specific, so you need to find a source for GFX-100s LUTs). LUTs are similar to simulations, so if you find sources that give you the look you want, you should be able to directly use them in PS and LR. But I should also mention I have not used Adobe's software in some time, so I cannot really give you much in the way of help for doing that beyond saying that it is possible. I should mention it is possible to use CLUTs (color lookup tables) or just LUTs directly in Photoshop, so you may have some good fortune trying that. If you ever decide to venture outside of the Adobe / C1 worlds, apps such as DarkTable and RawTherapee do give you pretty good conversions. Here is an article (a bit long-winded) about Fujifilm’s simulations: X Raw Studio is free, that link also lets you download it as well as giving you the installation instructions. X Raw Studio connects to the camera and uses the camera’s hardware to convert the image instead of using your computer to do so, so the result should be as close as possible to an exact match for the raw + jpg images you are currently getting. RAF image to a TIFF image and import that back into the Adobe software. Grab a copy of Fujifilm’s X Raw Studio and use it to convert the raw. There is a way to stay “close” though by only adding one step in the conversion process. Strictly staying only in the Adobe system may be tricky. Any advice for how to maintain the camera settings profile preferably within the Adobe Ecosystem? I really use the LR catalog and only use CaptureOne when I have to because I shot on PhaseOne. But this Fuji has REALLY nice in camera options that you purportedly can change afterwards. Generally in the past I always turned off all profiling and camera processing settings, preferring a flat, neutral image to start post with. I am fine with the QUALITY of the raw processing in LR, I just want to retain the 'look' of the from camera to post vis a vis the film sim settings. I ran it through Capture One, and it definitely retains the profiling better than LR does, but absolutely does not match the JPG in terms of tonality and optics correction. I set it to use the Camera Settings profile, but it's still pretty far off from the JPG if you shoot Raw +Jpg. But then does that thing where LR processes the thumbnail using their preset profiles. In LR when you import it shows up looking like you set it in camera (in RAW only). You can get the curve from this file: File:DCP tone curve. I REALLY dig the GFX 100s camera, very modern, very easy to set up and use, just suits my style of shooting, and reminds me of the best of the Sony A7r series cameras in terms of functionality.īut I'm not wrapping my head around the image processing and film sim profile thing. The curve used in some of RawTherapees bundled DCP profiles is the same as the default curve used by Adobe Camera Raw. I use LRC to catalog and import files (except for with PhaseOne, only Capture One for that). I'm a pro and have shot Phase One, Hasselblad, and Pentax Medium Format systems for years. These images can be almost ten times the size of the typical JPEG you get from the S22, so you may find yourself quickly filling up your on-board and cloud storage allowances if you take a lot of RAW images. One other issue is less to do with the app and is just the main unavoidable downside of shooting in RAW: file sizes. That's hardly in keeping with the freedom the app's other settings give you. For example, Expert RAW would be no good for my product shots for Tom's Guide since they need to be 16:9. That's a common enough ratio for most purposes, but it does mean that you'll have to shoot with a mind to how you want to crop the images later. The bigger limitation is that you can only take photos in a 4:3 aspect ratio. There are two notable downsides: you're locked at 4:3 and there's no front camera support. Granted, I'm more likely to want to take a selfie quickly rather than take my time to tune and frame it, but it's still an odd limitation to have. For one, the app doesn't support the front camera, meaning you won't be able to get the editing power we just saw over your selfies. There are two notable downsides I found while using Expert RAW. And it goes without saying that you wouldn't be able to make this happen so easily by trying to edit a JPEG, if at all. More experienced hobbyists and professionals will be able to get a lot more out of this, and without needing to tote their bulky regular DSLR around. I am not an experienced editor, but I was able to manage the above only by playing around with the basic sliders available in Photoshop - and only for about half an hour at that. I managed to do so (excluding some indistinct “clipped” shadows) and now it's a vibrant yet more realistic image. I deliberately made this original image look weird by messing around with the in-app controls, to see if I could save it in the editing process. See this shot of the sculpture "My World and Your World" by Eva Rothschild, located in Lewis Cubitt Park before and after editing. This means editing images in Photoshop works just as you would hope, giving you the power to perfect your shot, even if it was really off in the first place. The real benefit of RAW images only appears when you try to edit the shots later on.Įxpert RAW saves the RAW images as Digital Negative (.dng) files, the Adobe-developed RAW standard. The Expert RAW export is very flat in comparison to the camera app's with the color of the sky and building severely drained. Without treatment, you can end up with a far worse shot, as you can see in this comparison of two telephoto shots of a roof at Kings Cross' Coal Drops Yard. You shouldn't use your own unedited export of the RAW file though. The coloring of both shots is basically identical, with only a little more definition in the Expert RAW's image if you examine the brickwork of the building You can see this below in a shot of the Victoria and Albert Museum in Kensington, London that I took using both apps. Whether you're looking at the images in your Gallery app or in your image editor of choice, you won't see much difference between Expert RAW's JPEG shots and the ones you get from the regular camera app. They'll all appear in the usual Gallery app too, but they're mixed in with your other images. You can browse photos once you're finished snapping through the app's preview function, which shows you only the RAW images and their JPEG counterparts you've shot through Expert RAW. You also get a useful reset button to instantly snap everything back to the automated settings if you've messed things up. However, the new, easily-accessible control layout encourages you to start experimenting with the settings since they're all in view and are really easy to switch between automatic and manual modes. The app will happily take care of all the basics for you, just like the regular camera app. You have 5 lives that you can refill every time. The game starts easily and becomes increasingly difficult. How to choose the right Amazon Fire tablet for you Read our full Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids review. If you want a durable, long-lasting tablet tailored to young children, the Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids is a great choice. Sure, the lack of Google Play Store apps limits what you can do with this tablet, but that's hardly a problem if you're planning to give it to your 5-year-old so they can have something to watch videos on. Plus, the detailed built-in parental controls give you a lot of control over what a child does on the device, with little risk of them going astray. Like its siblings the Fire HD 10 Kids sports a bright display, a durable kid-friendly design, and excellent battery life. It costs as much as the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro ($199) and offers basically the same features, but aimed at children ages three to seven rather than older kids. The Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids, like the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro listed above, is effectively a version of the Fire HD 10 that's tailored for kid-friendly use. In fact, with enemies varying from floating heads to vampires, it all becomes rather addictive. More of the story is fed to the players as progress is made and Beneath is a surprisingly entertaining addition to the standard Paint the Town Red experience. You end up in an underground government facility where you can choose a class like a Brawler or a Warlock and then head into a series of caves and tunnels to defeat enemies, eventually taking down and killing four bosses. Completely different from the other modes, it takes you on a journey that plays as a roguelike RPG. Most weapons in Paint the Town Red are melee weapons, however, ranged weapons such as firearms can be used on occasion. As the player will be under constant assault by enemies, theyll need to find weapons to both defend themselves and strike back with. What is a very interesting and great addition is that of Beneath. anWeapons are a pivotal focus in Paint the Town Red. This is fun once again, but it doesn’t have the same appeal as to what is found in the scenarios. The voxel-based enemies can be punched, bashed, kicked, stabbed and sliced completely dynamically using almost anything that isn't nailed down. Once again you aim to be the last one standing as the challenges get harder with more things trying to kill you. This pack includes the maps, which will simply give you the best workshop experience out there. Paint the Town Red is a chaotic first person melee combat game set in different locations and time periods and featuring a massive Rogue-Lite adventure. The other modes on offer are that of Arena which is like a challenge mode – a host of folk are placed in a gladiator arena with spinning spike machines and fire traps. There are lots of options that ensure Paint the Town Red is fun to play with lots of varied gameplay. You can even turn everyone into zombies if you really want to. You can adopt a special move like a supercharge hit or Berserker mode where you kill everything in slow-motion. You can make the enemies weaker so they only need one hit to take them down, or make yourself weaker for more of a challenge. It’s not just all about punching and kicking your way through things though and if you want to amend the levels a little, making them play out differently, there are a range of modifiers which add to your experience. 12 rooms with plenty of weapons to fight with. Due to this Paint the Town Red works as a careful mix of tactical nous and sheer fighting skills. Final version of this classic map : Full police station with custom objects. It goes without saying that you have a health bar and can only take a small amount of damage before it’s game over. The objects or weapons range from knives to pool cues or a simple stool left lying around. But you only get to use them once and the problem is, everyone in the area you are in – ie, the whole bar – is trying to kill you. You have a kick button and a jump button, yet you can also pick up a large array of weapons find everyday objects lying around and use them as deadly weapons.
